Independent Candidate for next year’s local elections in the Boyle Municipal District Tom Crosby has expressed serious concern over the lack of Emergency Consultant cover in the Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar – and in eight more Emergency Departments nationwide.

Speaking this week he said, he understood that “nine hospitals around the country with 24/7 Emergency Departments do not have an Emergency Medicine Consultant present around the clock. This is an absolutely unacceptable situation in an already failing health service where a shocking 9 out of 29 Emergency Departments nationwide do not have a named Consultant in Emergency Medicine available and clinically accountable on a 24/7 basis”.

The hospitals in questions include Midland Regional, Mullingar and Midland Regional, Portlaoise.

I am calling on this Fine Gael/FF led government to invest in our health service before it is too late,” concluded Mr. Crosby.
