It is deeply disappointing and quite alarming to hear the news that no less than seven shops in the picturesque town of Carrick-on-Shannon in County Leitrim have announced their imminent closure.

Newsagents Prior’s and Gartlan’s closed their doors for the final time on August 31st, while Scented Meadows, Ruche Boutique, Crescendo and Sherbet have also announced their intention to shut up shop. The news has been blamed on a lack of visitors to the region.

Carrick on Shannon as we all know is situated on the banks of the beautiful river Shannon and has a number of fine hotels and establishments to cater for locals and visitors alike and it is tragic to hear news like this. I would call on our local representatives to fight for more investment in this beautiful town which has so much to offer.
