In good news for the midlands region more than 200 fewer people were signing on last month in Leitrim, Longford and Roscommon compared to figures for July, according to the latest Central Statistics Office figures, which reveals that there is currently 1,874 people unemployed in Leitrim, a drop of 99 people on figures for July, representing a drop of 383 on figures for the same month last year..

In Longford, the local social-welfare office reported a reduction of 62 people on its live register, with 2,821 people signing on each week – 455 more people employed than there was this time last year whilst in County Roscommon 47 fewer people presented as unemployed in August of this year – a reduction of 223 for the same month last year.
