Prospective Independent candidate for the Roscommon South Leitrim by-election Tom Crosby has welcomed the recent HIQA report following an on the spot visit to the Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar which showed that the ward in question (Medical Three) was deemed clean.
“This recent unannounced inspection was carried out on the general medical ward which carries out a wide range of health services for all ages from people from all over the midlands region and further afield,” said the former Councillor this week “and though it resulted in a mainly positive result for the Midlands regional hospital it did show some shortfalls that would need to be addressed, namely the fact that Medical Three hand hygiene rating had not reached the proposed national targets of 90 per cent. This needs to be further investigated.”
“The extensive report also found that the ward had failed an environmental audit in April of this year, with a score of 80 percent. However it noted that it has since improved its standards, with a re audit a month later passing with 89 per cent.”
“I welcome HIQA’s continued valuable work into the medical service and strive to ensure that we continue to provide the very best service for those availing of the Midlands Regional Hospital,” continued Mr. Crosby.
