I warmly welcome this week’s news that Roscommon County Council has been granted conditional permission for the redevelopment of the old courthouse building in Boyle.
The courthouse closed two years ago which forced sittings to be moved tonearby Carrick on Shannon and Roscommon Courthouses.
The loss of the courthouse in 2012 was a major blow for the town of Boyle and this announcement will see both employment and a boost to the local economy which is badly needed in these times.
This week’s statement will see the Boyle Courthouse Development Association progress extensive plans to the tune of €250 thousand euro, to convert the building into an exhibition space to house the Boyle Model Railway.
Roscommon County Council states that the work must be carried out in accordance with national guidelines on Heritage Protected Structures and that a conservation architect must be appointed to supervise the development.
