Independent County Councillor Tom Crosby has placed an notice of motion on the agenda for the January meeting of Roscommon County Council to make a submission and call on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) (Both agencies are responsible for regulating Irish Water) that Irish Water urgently put in place an embargo that no Sludge from Sewerage (Wastewater) Treatment plants be spread on any land that may in any way affect public drinking water. At present there are large areas of designated lands approved for the spreading of Sludge (Human Waste) from Sewerage Treatment plants, some approved lands are in close proximity to public drinking water sources.

Cllr Crosby states that in light of the huge problems with drinking water that every measure possible should be put in place to ensure that this basic and most valuable resource be protected from any possible pollution.
